Returning to her Jewish grandmother's birthplace in India, director Sadia Shepard discovers
the story of Bene Israel, a tiny Jewish community in Bombay. Her colorful documentary is a
journey to reconnect with a group of Jews who believe they are descended from one of the
lost tribes of Israel, shipwrecked in India 2,000 years ago.
Preceded by:
ASHKENAZ (Rachel Leah Jones, Israel, 2007, 72 min.),
a pithy but panoramic view of Israel's "white" Jews.
